I don't think anyone appreciated the photo editing I did for this image. There's the addition of the dog, of course, but the source image also cut off halfway through the cloud. I added an inch of sky.

I've seen some friends sharing the "Steam censored the human horse game!" post and I wanted to draw attention to this line in their explanation:

This is kind of rough because I did not look at a reference of Frieren but you get the idea. Once you have the boxes and planes worked out, you can draw things in the right perspective. Don't forget to let hair and accessories follow gravity (ie the torso perspective)

You can also see the green lines where I've marked position and planes (intersecting angles) of my facial features on that image. I have the ref on a different layer of the sketch, so I can hide it, but still check it later (ears are hard)

What I do instead, especially for extreme angles, is take the ref photo (and combine ref pic if I take the arm pose from one photo and the face from another, etc) and box them (pink lines)! It's hard for my brain to figure out perspective for curved shapes, but it's easy to do it for rectangles.

Once I figure out the pose, I take (or search online for) a reference photo. This is especially important for faces bc we usually see faces dead-on or at mild angles; an extreme angle like this is hard to find. I love that SpaceDev1 nailed the jawline, which a lot of following attempts whiff!
