This is a terrific piece that gets to the nub of things. How, in Mahmood’s fantasy, taking rights away from immigrants will somehow appease the racists.

It’s an easier fix than addressing the inequality & economic failures which are actually fuelling division

I promise I’ll stop the ridiculously pretty winter running photos soon

10km / 1 hour / 310m vertical

A few more centimetres overnight ❄️

Short run today, just to check out snow conditions further up the mountain.

Run stats: I just passed 120km of vertical ascent for the ytd (2,535km distance in total). 16% up on last year’s vert so far, aiming for 130,000m+ for the full year

UK politics is depressing, so look at this photo from yesterday’s run instead.

Couldn’t have been a more perfect late autumn afternoon. The only downer was I was working so could only get out for an hour.

Beautiful Remembrance Day run, thinking of the millions who sacrificed everything to fight fascism.

And FUCK all the politicians who tell us that Antifa is now the enemy & want to turn us against our neighbours & friends because of the colour of their skin or where they happen to have been born.

Back on the Chamonix trails today on a perfect, crisp autumn day.

Plenty of snow has fallen since we left for 🇪🇸 a week ago - excitement for the ski season to come but more than a bit of sadness for me as the trails at 2,000m+ will be inaccessible now until May or June ‘26 😞

I just finished ‘You Are Here’ by David Nicholls. He’s a master of his genre of modern fiction & a lovely chap to boot.

Added bonus of this novel is that it largely tells the story of Wainwright’s coast to coast walk from the Lake District to Robin Hood’s Bay. Highly recommended!

1 year, no beer 🍺; a full year today without alcohol.

Celebrated with a rainy run in Malaga, and a 🍷 this evening.

Decided from here on, having broken the habit, I’ll have the occasional drink if & when I fancy it.

The year off has been great & totally reframed my relationship with alcohol

Last minute ☀️ break in Marbella - was meant to be in Annecy but the weather crap in the Alps.

This means an opportunity for flat running, and managed my quickest 10km time on the Esplanade out & back to Puerto Banus. Didn’t push too much, hamstrings a bit tight in the last km!

First ‘quick’ run for a while yesterday after 2.5 weeks of sickness. Felt ok considering, 90% back to normal.

Although I didn’t test, I’m fairly sure it was Covid. My body feels good now, but resting HR stubbornly high at 43bpm (had been averaging 39-41 for 2025)

Hosting some old school friends in Chamonix for the long weekend. We got very lucky with the weather and have made the most of it; hike to Lac Blanc yesterday & l’Aiguille du Midi this morning 👌🏽 ☀️ 🏔️

Only 6km downhill to go to the finish for the Irish lads. 430km / 32,000m vertical covered in 7.5 days!

Brian & team Ireland at Refuge Bertone. 6km all downhill to the finish in Courmayeur. What an epic journey that started last Friday night!
