I can definitely see mass doxxing campaigns, hacking people's accounts and such and seeing what they're tied to. And those would especially hurt those pickme people who believe their IRL lives would never be tied to the stuff they're liking or drawing online.

Partly of course neoliberals are to blame. The insane belief in "end of history" and that surely extreme conservatism would not come back! So let's destroy anonymity, let's support digitization of everything, mass survelliance, now shit like ID registration in UK (and possibly soon in the EU).

I guess the illusion of anonymity helps. "Sure I draw degenerate porn on the internet, but it's not like I act deviantly IRL!" Quite a depressing view because anonymity basically does not exist. If a conservative crowd decides to they could deanonymize and dox anyone, including those "pick me" ppl.

In terms of things like racism one could see why that stuff accumulated much easier. Anime isn't some inherently anti-racist medium. Even when something preaches equality obviously a racist person could just ignore it, and a lot of people don't really care about "messages" at all.

Now I'm mostly talking about the bigotry in terms of LGBT, like how weebs and bronies and such on the bigoted side of things somehow ended up seetheing about "degeneracy" and shit like that, doing Christian larps calling everthing demonic. Total cognitive dissonance.

And it often felt like these kind of interestes were places of acceptance. Even the people who'd make edgy, "problematic" jokes when asked directly never seemed like they were being genuine. But a lot of them I guess started taking that shit more seriously at some point, not just as shitposting.

It's still a depressing realization to me that anime, and MLP and such types of communities somehow ended up often harbouring a lot of bigoted people. Even being born in 2001 I do remember that you would often get mocked even in early 10s for watching such stuff as it was viewed as unmanly and gay.

And on the subject of bots...my bsky account is showing a bigger number of subscribers than there are actual visible subscribers. I heard this is because of some autoblock feature on obvious bot accounts? But if it's not also unsubscribing these bot accounts automatically then what's the point...
