Billy as The Doctor in the episodes is consistently recognisable. But I swear, every still image of him as The Doctor looks like a different person.

This reminds me – watching Dave Bowman speed-aged into posthumous evolution in '2001' at the Prince Charles last week reminded me of the subsequent 'football on telly' scene in The Ambassadors of Death. The space aliens help the astronauts hold it together by simulating familiar surroundings.

The Ambassadors of Death needed so much work just to get the pages onto set that it's still really clunky. Having the audience ahead of the good guys for the whole show is bizarre. The evil doesn't shock us cos we see it all being arranged. But what should feel banal has a very Vietnam-era darkness.
