LSU is going to pay Lane Kiffin if Ole Miss wins in the playoffs, even though he is not coaching them anymore. They are paying him for their rival winning. That's one of the weakest things I've ever heard www.nytimes.com/athletic/685...
There is one unique clause. In an unprecedented move, Kiffin's LSU contract also states that it will pay him any Playoff bonus he would have received at Ole Miss this season, including $150,000 for an appearance up to $1 million for winning the national title. That means if new Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding goes on a Playoff run, Kiffin will be paid by LSU for that success.

Blame was thrown on the "calendar," even though it was coaches such as Kiffin who created it. And leaving a championship contender is an individual choice that no one else is making. Blame was put on Ole Miss, like it should just accept desperate second-class hostage status. Better to promote defensive coordinator Pete Golding and try to win with the people who want to be there.

Meanwhile, back here in Oxford, there is a scramble. A postponement of the team meeting, to 1 pm, is related to the university's attempt to retain staff for the CFP run. There is now doubt that Lane Kiffin will be in attendance as his scheduled travel to Louisiana overlaps.

One of the reasons I am skeptical of Lane Kiffin working out in LSU or Florida: Ole Miss is happy to be in the conversation, so they love and adore him. LSU and Florida expect to be in the conversation, and doing so will earn at most acceptance. Which is a big risk to run when you've never done it
The most remarkable thing about this frenzy is that we're not exactly talking about Nick Saban here. Kiffin has never won a national championship as a head coach, or even reached the play-offs. His career might have more burned bridges than signature victories.

Imanaga's camp had time to survey the market before deciding to accept the offer, which provides a $6.8 million pay raise over the initial '26 salary under his original contract structure. The lefty would also be eligible to enter free agency next offseason without going through the QO process. Tech companies are pouring billions of dollars into reaching superintelligence as fast as possible. Once we develop machines significantly more competent than us across all domains, we will most likely be at the mercy of the superintelligent machines themselves, as currently no country, no company, and no person knows how to control them. In theory, a superintelligent AI would pursue its own goals, and if those goals were incompatible with sustaining human life, we would be annihilated.

These things never end well for coaches who've spent a career at one school, unless your name is Nick Saban or Tom Osborne. Because every other coach who has tried to go beyond the horizon line at a job they made great, has eventually faded away from losing or shame. Or both.
