There isn't a doubt in my mind that we’re going to crush this regime, but that isn’t going to come from pretending that everything is normal, ok, & working as it should. It will be achieved as always by mass agitation & defiance that makes the existing system impossible.
This tactic of flooding & clogging systems of repression was central to the success of civil rights organizers who mobilized to overturn Jim Crow. They didn’t *vote* it out bc they were legally blocked from doing so. Instead, they made it impossible to maintain.

I grew up with Alex Pretti

As someone who has spent over 35 years trying to explain that violence is inherent to policing only to have most people be OK with this, I could be excused if I decided to just give up. But I'm not. I knew we would be where we are today. I still think that we do not have to live like this.

I was one of Alex's nursing faculty at MCTC. This is simply devastating. He was a good student and I knew he'd be a good nurse. Im so sorry for you and his VA family. May his memory be a blessing and an example of what a nurse is.

He was a nurse who worked in the ICU (formerly worked for the VA); he had been helping to direct traffic, then responded when ICE agents began pepper spraying a woman. Footage shows he had a camera in his hands, filming the interaction….
Alex from our time working together, while he was in nursing school. Later, he moved to ICU, working as a nurse to support critically ill Veterans. He had such a great attitude. We’d chat between patients about trying to get in a mountain bike ride together. Will never happen now

The Strib has identified him. Alex Pretti. Another 37-year-old executed for standing up for our immigrant neighbors. For shame.

How to communicate with people drawn to white nationalist "faith":

1. Don't bother with the namecalling
If you lead with “racist,” “fascist,” or “cult,” they will likely shut down. Use words that they will listen to.

I wrote about how the Trump administration won’t let Black people use MATH to prove racism exists.
Apparently, only white self-reporting their own racism now counts as evidence of racism.
The DOJ Just Made It Almost Impossible to Prove Racism Exists
By rolling back “disparate impact" claims, the Trump administration is reducing courts to mere rubber stamps for the white supremacy written into the laws.

The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality.

And trans lives are grounded in reality.

Every American should read this ACLU lawsuit about what is happening in Los Angeles and California. It is the stuff of dystopian nightmares. This is not immigration enforcement. It is positively stuffed with videos and articles documenting racial profiling on a scale unseen since Jim Crow.
