I worked promoting the rights of the child
I felt childhood was valuable as itself; it wasn’t merely a preparation for something else
So argued we should strive to make childhoods as happy as possible (& that eradicating child poverty was fundamental)
#TomStoppard nailed it in this speech
Beautiful

Just found this gem of an exchange on Reddit
Indeed separated by a common language

I am not generally supportive of long prison sentences but corrupt politicians really deserve harsh measures Honestly don’t believe he was the only Reform MEP taking bribes like this
They were all supportive of Russia

It’s not December yet and I am already dreaming of Spring

Two very relevant quotations here, from Aneurin Bevan, the founder of the British NHS, which the political right and corporate lobbyists in the UK are trying very hard to destroy

For Remembrance Sunday
As well as the heroism, the pointless, pitiless waste of life

A photo of my great Uncle Bobby, much mourned by my grandmother, who had this taken with her just before leaving for France
A week later he was dead

I’m late to the party but isn’t “Colin from accounts” a work of genius?

Kier Starmer is a raging philosemite
It’s unhelpful & a manifestation of discrimination against Jews
It explains his “unequivocal” support for the Israeli state, & his resistance to acknowledge war crimes, crimes against humanity, & genocide in Gaza

This is an incredibly powerful poem by Warsan Shire about why people seek asylum
No one ever really wants to leave their home
“No one puts their children in a boat, unless the water is safer than the land.”

I don’t usually quote Tories but now and again one of them says something really worth listening too.
Here’s Rory Stewart on Trump

It is absolutely scandalous NHS England, despite the mountain of evidence for aerosol spread, is still giving advice on preventing Covid29 infection in infants as if it is droplet spread
Nothing about avoiding crowded poorly ventilated indoor spaces

This was true on the Titanic, where men were less likely to survive But that was a cultural norm of the time, more about male honour than anything else
Doesn’t apply now
But being rich also meant you were more likely to survive!

Not a fan of the MI6 building
Not a fan of any of those humongous buildings raised along the riverside in the last 40 years, cutting the city off from the Thames
Actually I really hate that this has been allowed
A momentous failure of city planning
I mean look at these👇🏻
Hideous

We must do all we can to save the #NHS
But the way current NHS management & #WesStreeting treat NHS staff is scandalous
Something not discussed by the MSM
I wrote this to the @theguardian.com recently in response to an article on violence to NHS staff
They didn’t publish so I’m putting it up here

Another thing
Why is this described as 100,000 people?
Actually it’s about 99,000 men and a few women
NO ONE ever comments on this
The far right is not wholly but largely a problem with men
I’ve looked at several images of the crowd “protesting” today
Haven’t yet found a single woman
