Barnabas walked towards the kitchen, leaving Julia and Roger to talk in the drawing room of the Old House. He hoped Julia could aid his dear friend. The blonde woman at his side walked through the back rooms as though she was as familiar with them as he...but then again, she almost was.

Take heart, my dear. My sister always sang when she felt nervous. I myself have been known to retreat out of the house and into the woods with paper and pen or a good book. That was long ago, when my family still walked the halls of this house... Now there is quiet, but still no peace.

That evening the rain fell in Collinsport, but an even greater storm was brewing inside the Old House. Barnabas stood with his fingertips pressed together. He couldn't understand Julia's agitated behavior this evening, but he endeavored to be as gentle as possible.
