For the characters I use an Albedo/Diffuse texture, an Emissive texture and a two channel Mask texture containing Ambient Occlusion and Roughness.
Giving me everything I need for ""PBR"" while keeping the Vita above 60 FPS, the target framerate for the game. 🤓

Knowing that mips work on normal textures I decided to render my cubemaps into lat-long textures, then I do a bunch of reflection math in the vertex shader (to avoid per pixel reflection calculations) and sample mips like you would any normal texture. 🦾

Usually you'd use cubemaps for PBR and then sample lower mip-maps to simulate a rough surface.
With the Vita being about 14 years old it does not support the border mip-maps needed for sampling between cubemap faces, so you get sharp lines between the faces like this. 🤢
