That said, to your core point, Bostrom's "The Vulnerable World Hypothesis" very directly argues for a global authoritarian surveillance state given certain assumptions about existential risk.

I totally buy that Thiel is responding to that type of stuff & assuming others are advocating similar.

Mostly agree with your thread here, but note that "precautionary principle" has long been used widely outside of rationalist circles, including in environmental policy circles.
