Im happy to finally see this thing @srgalloway.bsky.social and I wrote together out in the world. It's called "Grooming Authoritarianism" and it's about how social and political panic around trans/queer lives can teach us about the decline in democracy.

What happened, @nytimes.com? Why not stand by your original headline? Because it’s absolutely an accurate representation of this trash conversation.

To publish this at all should be a fireable offense - but to publish it as women’s rights are being decimated is deeply immoral, bordering on evil

Why does the Trump administration blame trans people together with migrants? As Paul Preciado argues in Can the Monster Speak? (2020), the history of homosexuality/transsexuality shows us that "migration" has always been a central issue for political regimes of sex, gender, and sexual difference

From the website of the USDA: more evidence of how the US authoritarian regime is constantly obsessed with the bodies of migrants and trans people.

So this happened. At at open call for "new models," someone was reading CAPITAL IS DEAD while waiting in line. Telfar himself asked the aspiring model to read it out loud. They then hired me to appear in this video to talk about it. Video here:

politicians posting AI slop to make their opponents say and do stupid things is really just another turn in the downward spiral of the absolute stupidity of our present moment.

I saw an interview of Trump talking about how economy is doing well when he suddenly pivots and says "the radical left democrats, these people are crazy, they want open borders, they want to have men in women sports, they want to have transgender everybody" it's like a tagline for him now
In response to the Kirk shooting, Trump once again invokes the danger of trans people, saying: "Radicals on the left are the problem... They want men in women’s sports, they want transgender for everyone, open borders. Worst thing that happened to this country."

Why does he talk about trans people?

I went to a queer music festival over the weekend called Whole. At about 1am on Sunday, I was talking to some friends about what turned us onto feminism when we were young. We were sitting on a platform painted to mimic a large twister board while three gays were fucking a few feet away from us

it's a provocation for queer political scientists not to seek assimilation into the discipline and a call/demand/shout for straight political science to queer its disciplinary practices if it wants to stay relevant in the study of democracy

🧵 Last week, Robin White, a barrister and trans woman, was harassed for using the women’s toilets in the Parliament.

Today, Parliament has implemented a trans bathroom ban, telling trans people that they are no longer be allowed to use toilets which align with their lived gender.

It's weird when I hear people repeat this tired idea that patriarchal sex centers the male orgasm to the exclusion of female pleasure. If you've watched straight porn, then you know that the majority of screen time is centered not on male pleasure at all but men's ability and skill to make women cum

In an endless state of surprise seeing so many of my liberal friends posting and sharing the kind of protest security tactics and tips that were common in anarchist spaces over a decade ago but were considered tin foil hat crazy at the time. One important lesson I learned in all these opsec talks

Woohoo! Finally got the proofs for this text @srgalloway.bsky.social and I wrote on why political scientists need to 'queer' the discipline to properly study authoritarianism today. This isn't a call for inclusion, assimilation, but for undoing the cis-heteronormativity of the discipline's analytics

The fact that early 20 year olds have adopted queer aesthetics as their dominant fashion has really thrown off my gayday. My younger friends are constantly telling me that the attractive twink over there is not a twink at all but just a straight lad because that's what they look like these days

liberal: trans women should be able to use the women's toilets

me: abolish gender segregated toilets, all toilets should be gender neutral

I'm grading undergraduate theses and family abolition is the hot topic of the year - glad to see it! But it's making me realize that students have little historical knowledge on the formation of the 'nuclear family' and especially the role that homo/heterosexuality has played in it's development.
