Are you aged 18 or over? Have you sustained a stroke? Do you suffer sudden onset, uncontrollable crying, or laughter episodes since the stroke? Post-stroke emotionalism is a common problem and at UEA we are conducting ground-breaking clinical research to find an effective medical treatment.

Imagine working unpaid for the rest of the year. This is the reality for stroke survivors up and down the country.

Today is Disability Pay Gap Day, which means disabled people will stop being paid compared to non-disabled colleagues, earning £4,300 less/year.

Why should stroke survivors be poorer?

Offering meat-free lunches five days a week could save the NHS £2.2 billion annually, yet resistance to change remains.

A small study in New York found over 90% satisfaction with plant-based options, saving $0.59 per-person, and an estimated 36% reduction in emissions. #UKSF25

“When do patients go from recovery, to discovery of themselves?”

Stroke stories are often dismissed as anecdotal, but Prof Frederike van Wijck used quotes from survivors to frame the journey from pre- to post-stroke, and the factors that can support that transition. #UKSF25

We also paid tribute to Pippa Tyrrell, who championed the power of lived experience, and whose leadership helped pave the way for truly patient-centred stroke care.

She always strove for fairness and, above all, “was an absolutely lovely human being.”
