Progress and hope

In 2013, intersex activists created the Malta Declaration, demanding an end to non-consensual surgeries, depathologization, legal recognition beyond binary M/F, and anti-discrimination protections. It's our human rights framework we want to expand everywhere.

The order banned federal funding for educational materials about intersex people. Fascist human cock-sleeve Stephen Miller architected this framework. As activist Alicia Roth Weigel wrote, it "attempts to negate our very existence."

On Jan 20, 2025, Trump signed Executive Order 14168 defining sex as "immutable" and based on reproductive cells at conception. Intersex people aren't mentioned anywhere. We've been legislatively erased. 'X' passport markers were eliminated.

Today, 19 states have bathroom laws requiring people to use facilities matching their birth certificate. InterACT states plainly: "some intersex people cannot legally enter a public bathroom" in these states. We're being erased by design.

Historical Medical Violence

In 1838, Herculine Barbin was born intersex in France. At 21, doctors "reclassified" Barbin as male. The press called Barbin a "monster." Forced from her job and relationship, Barbin died by suicide at 29. Her body was dissected without consent.

The UN Special Rapporteur on Torture classified these surgeries as torture in 2013. They cause scarring, chronic pain, loss of sexual sensation, sterilization, and trauma. The risk of assigning the wrong gender can be as high as 40% (depending on specific condition).

Nearly 30 years later, non-consensual cosmetic genital surgeries on intersex infants still happen at hospitals nationwide. These aren't medically necessary and they're only done to make bodies look "normal" according to binary sex standards.

The doctors had kicked them out instead of listening to their concerns about infant genital surgeries(common practice on intersex infants). They dismissed the activists as a "vocal minority." That protest sparked a movement. In 2004, Intersex Awareness Day was born.

Holiday Origins:

On Oct 26, 1996, intersex activists Morgan Holmes and Max Beck protested outside the American Academy of Pediatrics conference in Boston. They held signs reading "Keep Your Scalpels OFF Our Bodies." It was the first public intersex demonstration.

Intersex people make up 1.7% of the population—about 1 in 59 people. That's roughly as common as having red hair or a peanut allergy. Yet most people have never knowingly met an intersex person. We've been systematically erased from public discourse and recognition.
