Intersex people make up 1.7% of the population—about 1 in 59 people. That's roughly as common as having red hair or a peanut allergy. Yet most people have never knowingly met an intersex person. We've been systematically erased from public discourse and recognition.

Today is Intersex Awareness Day. I'm a bigenitaled intersex person, and I want to share why October 26th matters to me and all intersex people. We exist, we've always existed, and we deserve to be seen and heard.
