Automation and platform screen doors are hardly common in Europe.

The REM has the nicest “outdoor” stations I’ve ever used. That’s including Tokyo and many cities in Europe.

Zohran was already a clear YIMBY, no?

What GO is striving for is great. And I'm sure it helps that the fare structure is way better than the LIRR.

But! (and I know this post wasn't really), if we are comparing city to city, LIRR/MNR/NJT must be combined in ridership.

People always forget to do this when comparing city to city.

LIRR did one this year! Though maybe you are referring to the lack of a wreath on the front.

If I ride the subway after 10pm I am rolling the dice if the train will crawl between several stations and take 5-10 min longer to get home.

Getting on the Paris Metro at 12am and seeing the trains running every 4-7 min depends on the line is so nice.

Not to mention, no random slow zones that double the length of your trip!! It should be mandatory that they publish where slow zones will be happening and at what time!

This is what gets me. We have 15 min gaps way too often. Even when no major issue happens. And when everything is running normally we still have 12 or 10 min frequency on busy lines on weekends!

We only get away with this nonsense because of how long our trains are.

Trump mentioned building more housing like 10 times. It was crazy.

Except for the fact where trying to put in a bus lane or a pedestrian lane on locally owned and controlled bridges/streets suddenly involves the Federal DOT because … ?

I would be happy to walk by this every day. It would always stick out as a fun landmark. So I say mark it down as a good design.

Weird random time to mention NYC local buses that have nothing to do with an intercity trip.

But I did laugh out loud at the ridiculousness of this clip.

Now there is an example in Montreal! First thing I said was, wow this is sort of like Melbourne Skyrail!!

Roosevelt Island Tramway is OP”T”O.

New York City got shafted in this ranking.

Haha! I was there 2 weeks ago and when I saw it I thought about this conversation!

You need the amount that the RRs run. You will always have the chance of one or two being camped in, and it can take a while until conductor is sure of that. Then you have the ones that develop messes. And you have 6 cars trains that would only have 1?? No way.
November 14, 2025 at 10:11 PM
The DOT literally had the solution to this already listed as “potentially” being implemented. And then they decided not to, despite overwhelmingly positive feedback.

Hmm. Almost like all the people at the 31st Ave workshop knew what we were talking about when we put comments that the plaza blocks were mandatory to keep that section low traffic.

I am going to get the first northbound train because, from my point of view, the first in service REM train to go under Mont Royal is the true first one. That is such an life changing segment to have introduced rapid transit to.

So glad I read this post and found out about the weekend open house. Was able to minorly adjust plans to be able to make it on the first train on Saturday. I was previously planning to be on the first train on Monday.

And 9am will be a much nicer time for the inaugural ride!
