Good morning. Coffee in hand. Bob Dylan on repeat.
There is something about his voice in the early hours that feels like a companion. One more cup, one more reason to slow down and listen.

Some mornings just belong to Dylan.

Author Spotlight: Tommy Marcum

Southern Gothic, psychological horror, and supernatural fiction rooted in atmosphere, memory, and place. These are stories that don’t rush the scare, they let it settle in and wait.

Happy Monday, Bluesky
Fresh coffee. Clean page. New sentences waiting to be written.

Whether you’re drafting, revising, or just surviving the day, show up anyway.
Words don’t need perfection. They need presence.

Let’s do this.

I’m a poet and this is how my drafts come out, scratched, rewritten, racing the pencil.
Anyone else’s brain move faster than their hand can keep up?

Every writer’s inner monologue when a rejection hits:
“Dear Sir… this rejection letter needs work.”

Petty? Maybe.
Accurate? Absolutely.

Maya Angelou didn’t just write poems, she wrote survival into language.
Her work carried Black history, womanhood, pain, grace, and defiance with absolute clarity.
When she said “I rise,” it wasn’t metaphor. It was truth.

daisies don’t ask permission
they push up anyway

a small poem about choices
about what survives
about what we decide to cut

Seeing new names here every day, so thank you for following.
We’re still small, but growing, and the goal stays the same: spotlight good work, lift each other up, and never charge writers to be seen.
Glad you’re here.

We’re almost at 600 followers, just one more to go. Every follow helps extend our reach and gives more authors and small presses the visibility they deserve. Remember: we, never charge, and we’re here to help amplify your work.

We’re still a small writer-discovery page on Bluesky, but we’re growing. I see so many authors and small presses doing great work and not posting as regularly as they could. Those voices deserve to be seen. If that’s you, let us help.

If you don’t know Breece D’J Pancake, you should.
One short story collection.
A handful of published works.
And prose so raw it feels unearthed rather than written.
Appalachia, poverty, silence, and people who don’t get rescued.
This is American literature.

Blackbird

A poem about clipped wings, stolen voices, and the quiet rise of retribution.
The kind of truth we’re not supposed to say out loud.

The hardest part is how relevant the song remains almost 40 years later. When a protest song ages into a documentary, the failure isn’t the art, it’s society.

Chapman’s work endures because she writes testimony, not metaphor.

Tracy Chapman has always been more than a musician, she’s a poet who chose a guitar. Talkin’ ’Bout a Revolution reads like protest poetry: spare lines, sharp repetition, nothing to soften the truth. Her restraint is the craft.

Baldwin later admitted he carried that book inside him so long that “it had to come out all at once.”

Sometimes the story isn’t written, it breaks free.

James Baldwin wrote the first draft of Go Tell It on the Mountain in three fevered days at age 24.

He said it felt less like writing a novel and more like “an eruption.”

This is one of my favorite pieces.

THE POOL PLAYERS.
SEVEN AT THE GOLDEN SHOVEL.

We real cool. We
Left school. We

Lurk late. We
Strike straight. We

Sing sin. We
Thin gin. We

Jazz June. We
Die soon.
