Ah the old days.

The cost for two of us went from $1400/mo to $3300/mo PLUS a $5000 increase in the deductible. We had to select a lower quality plan and it’s still going to be $1000 more per month and $5000 more in deductible for 2026.

Yes, almost everything is terrible! But I got recruited at the last minute to be the witness at a tiny wedding. So I stopped at the Donut Hut and made this wedding cake on my way there - and got to celebrate the love of two delightful older gentlemen I'd never met before. Some things are good!

Oh! I randomly helped the buff officiate a last minute wedding on Wednesday, I was the witness. (Two elderly neighbors who live 2 doors down from him).

I highly recommend finding an insurance broker who knows the plan details instead. In my state health ins. brokers don't charge a fee - there is nothing to lose by meeting with one.

At least health brokers in my state don't charge a fee. The premium costs are before you ever see a doctor, visits, procedures, prescriptions all cost more and how much more depends on the plan. If you use the care more, a cheaper plan could potentially cost more than an expensive one.
November 11, 2025 at 7:29 PM
As a couple in our 50s, the premium for both of us to stay on our current plan next year would be more than all of our other expenses combined - including a mortgage in SF. Meeting with a health broker today to see what cheaper plans might be compatible with my healthcare needs.

I haven't seen it! But I'm sure others have used that song...

what is it? I feel like i've seen this.
November 3, 2025 at 4:03 AM
Right? I thought mine was going up 50%, it more than doubled.
Premiums are so high it's putting us at real risk of stress related cardiovascular issues, but the care to treat those is unaffordable, which is creating more stress, which...

I was so stressed about premium increases I couldn't sleep for a month... they were so much higher than I expected, I've entered an unnatural state of calm. If death needs me, let him come. What am I gonna do about it.

the 2026 bronze premium I'm quoted is a few hundred higher than my 2025 silver was. everything is fun and great.
