I wish there was a standard because arbitrary terms can cause so much confusion in conversation. But, it's just an inevitable fact of language and culture. Language is fascinating!

A "continent" is arbitrary. That's why there is so much disagreement on both the "true" definition as well as the number. I would say they are N. America, S. America, Africa, Eurasia, Oceania, and Antarctica. But, someone else could disagree while some would agree. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
