If we lived in a society that valued all individuals and their QoL, these would be affordable and excellent for those of us in need.

I did exactly this and the number of older coworkers who attempted to shame despite knowing how awful my parents were was mind boggling. “They’re your only parents.” “Honor thy mother and father.”
I soon realized those people were terrified that their kids might do the same thing to them.
