You truly, 100%, can just play it, no special cards or dice required. (Sure it's fun for a player to have two physical d12, but you can roll digitally, or just roll the same d12 twice and call which one's which.)

It's confusing to me that people keep calling it a system though? It's all info that's also on your character sheet. It's just a nice add-on for people who find that useful (and pretty art for people who don't).

Who do they have on their team to compete with? Darrington has all their staff.

I once wrote a joke that implied otherwise, for the pun, and immediately messaged a Catholic scholar friend apologizing, swearing I knew that Immaculate Conception was not Virgin Birth. He gave me dispensation.

(sorry I got technical on you there lol. I just finally figured out how the hell to use armor in Daggerheart so it was top of mind.)

As a theater person who envied TV specifically because I'm a sucker for set dressing...this breaks my heart

like one of the reasons Crystal Skull fell so flat was that it was still referencing material of that era but we were another 20-30 years removed from the reference point

I thought that was on-the-record intentional of Raiders (and Indy generally)?

The brilliance of the cantina is also that it's FUN. It's a genre mash-up; so is Bladerunner; this is a genre mash-up with bright music and a lovingly detailed puppet clientele. Kids can make formative memories of that scene, whether or not they get the origin tropes.

I've started a series of (short!) videos on why Daggerheart is GREAT to pick up and GM. I think everyone should try it--even if they haven't played, even if they've never GMed. This game should bring more GMs into the world.

Please note I'm note REMOTELY trying to suggest that people shouldn't keep track physically/visually! But it being called a "system" makes me wonder if there's more than that.

PCs don't get killed/knocked out more regularly than in other games (less than in 5e, for example). The number of hit points isn't really relevant because of the way they get used.
December 7, 2025 at 10:52 AM
Gonna have to disagree! 6 HP yes, but damage points aren't HP--they get converted into HP via a damage threshold. You can't (theoretically) take more than 6 HP from one attack, and you can usually use armor to reduce that.

Basically, it's hard to kill your PCs *by accident.*

Not for my table! But certainly it's not for everyone.

The cards are all info that's also on the character sheet, so it depends what you mean!
December 7, 2025 at 6:03 AM
Yep! These are communities by which your character is currently borne.

...I held one on my birthday 5-10 years ago. It was a Shakespearean one from a box set I'd bought years before and just held onto optimistically. I had to track down a cassette player online so we could listen to the opening 😂

My first might have been Legend of the 5 Rings...so long ago and so briefly that I had to Google around just now to figure out what it was called.

There were also murder mystery dinner parties. Hard to get people together for those in middle age, but for nostalgia's sake...
