More than a year in this has mostly gone as I feared, and in some ways has been worse. But there have been two contrasting surprises:

The most gratifying thing in the world for an organizer is when the organization you’ve spent years building can host a massive demonstration that you had nothing to do with. Look out world, because @crindivisible.bsky.social has multiple organizers these days.

We need to keep repeating this. People won’t just wake up one day and decide to resist the fascists. People need to be told. They are looking for leaders. All of us who care about democracy have to step up in ways big and small.
I'll probably say this 5 million times in coming years, but:
A political strategy that relies on the public "waking up" and realizing that Trump & Co. are awful -- on their own -- is destined to fail. No matter how bad it gets. None of this is self-executing. People must be told & shown.
