Before the CFPB lost most of its staffing, its investigators believed they had enough evidence to file civil lawsuits against three firms involved in zombie debt collections, according to two people with direct knowledge of the effort. In each of these cases, the agency was targeting a specific type of business: mortgage servicers. Servicers are hired by debt owners to handle the day-to-day management of their loans, such as generating statements and collecting payments. When mortgages are in default, servicers often are the ones sending demand letters and providing borrowers with their options to pay back any arrears. The consumer-protection agency’s officials thought that focusing on servicers — instead of the companies that bought zombie mortgages — would be an effective deterrent to unlawful collections. If these servicers thought regulators were scrutinizing their work on these old debts, fewer of them would take on the business, making it more difficult and costly for debt buyers to pursue collections, the people said.

Absolutely boggles the mind that this is legal.
An envelope that looks like official government mail, also with tear off sides and seal like how checks are distributed. There's no return address, instead it says "2025 Economic Relief for Affected New York Families" in a very IRS font. Opening the mail to reveal this is actually junk mail offering an unsolicited personal loan at 5.89%, still done up to look like it's actually a check for $50,000 Detail of the very small "This is not a check"

A certain percentage of Yankees fans will continue to be frustrated with Cashman and Boone, not wanting to hear about the difficulty of winning the World Series and how every season 29 of 30 teams end up disappointed. Earlier this season, when the Yankees were stumbling, it certainly was fair to question whether Boone was holding his players accountable enough, and whether owner Hal Steinbrenner was holding Cashman accountable enough. But the way the Yankees rallied in the final weeks and fought to the end in the DS almost certainly will discourage Steinbrenner from disrupting the status quo, which he never seems interested in doing, anyway. Steinbrenner, the Yankees’ principal owner since Nov. 2008, has never had a GM other than Cashman, and might fear the unknown. Cashman views Boone as a trusted partner, and Boone’s connection with players is undeniable. As The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner wrote, “Managing egos is one of the main job requirements for a modern-day manager. Few are better at it than Boone.”

This is lifted pretty much verbatim from the article about how if they lost to the Red Sox it was just a thing that happened. The Yankees won the same 94 games as Toronto because they went 18-29 over the summer, including only winning one game against the Jays so they didn't have the tiebreaker.
The Yankees finished with the same 94 wins as the Blue Jays during the regular season and defeated an admittedly inferior Red Sox club in the opening round. But in the best-of-five Division Series, the Jays were simply the better team. The problem for the Yankees, as I wrote earlier this week, is that perennial MVP candidate Aaron Judge will be 34 next April, and the team might already have wasted his best years.

This is the second paragraph. We're giving Boone credit for "rallying" the team after their 18-29 summer swoon, which cost them the division. Apparently Boone's body double was managing for those two months.

(I honestly agree with the Cashman assessment in this paragraph, sorry.)
In some ways, both Boone and Cashman draw high marks for 2025. Boone rallied his club from an 18-29 stretch at midseason to a 34-14 finish and triumph over the Boston Red Sox in the wild-card series. Cashman made a mostly successful pivot from Juan Soto last offseason and aggressively fortified the club at the trade deadline, albeit with mixed results.
