These are just three of the many library workers who have recently run for elected office, seeking to have a more direct say in the policies that govern their work.
What Would It Look Like If Librarians Ran the Government Instead of These Fools?
Librarians are growing sick of censoring and defunding — so they’re running for office.

Jim Obergefell–the name you know from the SCOTUS case on LGBTQ+ marriage–has penned a hell of an editorial about the political battle over LGBTQ+ books in Ohio libraries.

Listening to some Tx SBOE members trying to defend the lack of diversity at the hearing was appalling, i.e. Why do students need to "see themselves" in books, or Don't we all have shared western civ values"? etc.

But even conservative parents were unhappy that TEA would dictate reading lists.

Numerous elected SBOE members asked critical and thoughtful questions during the testimony this week. This is why contacting TX SBOE members is helpful. More info from @frankstrong.bsky.social on the booklist and how you can contact them. franklinstrong.substack.com/p/call-to-ac...

🚨Call to Action, Texans we need your voices! 🚨TEA & The SBOE want to mandate what all TX school children MUST read, and the book list is out of touch with TX students & families. It was clearly created to stifle certain ideas & voices & funnel students toward a narrow tightly controlled worldview.

Arkansas prisons will be implementing the cruelest and strictest total ban on books, magazines, and newspapers being mailed to those on the inside nationwide. The decision came using an excuse that continues to be unfounded.

This is important. It will spread.

Because identity grows in the places where we feel trusted.

We build book collections that reflect the world … Keep listening to what they reach for. And we fight to protect those choices.”

There are at least 10 states proposing really cruel, detrimental anti-library, anti-literature bills this legislative session. It's only January 18, so these won't be the only ones.

Here's what they are, what they do, and how you can respond.

Also note the outside agitators fueling these.
Even more bad library bills being proposed in state legislatures. Don't just read and understand what's at stake here–take action to help stop their progress.

Attempts to suppress LGBTQ+ books in libraries? They're not happening at the local level, folks.
