Y’all really want me to believe that a woman who name dropped her boyfriend’s podcast in a song about his penis is some sort of lyrical mastermind??? Oh okay

My job as a professor is not to create a serviceable worker. My job is to help foster thoughtful citizens or community members.

If that sounds fanciful it’s bc corporate interests have spent decades framing how we talk about education so they don’t take the heat for immiserating labor conditions.
Do not accept the premise that education is to blame for abysmal jobs outcomes.

“The fantasy economy's framing of economic inequality… focuses exclusively on education…deflects attention away from decades of public policies and changing business practices that have…contributed to stagnating wages”

Superhero movies -- all the big blockbuster franchises actually, are made for too much money to be so mid to outright bad. I think we should be harder on them given the resources behind them and the pop cultural oxygen they take up.

I knew the finale of Handmaid’s Tale wasn’t going to be subtle, but I couldn’t have anticipated the “write your story” moment. Dear lord lol.

This piece starts to get at heart of the matter, which is that universities are starting to turn into places where students learn nothing and professors teach nothing. And admins are happy with this. The pro-AI people here have nothing to add either except meaningless techno-optimist platitudes.

Today’s short story is “Sundown at the Eternal Staircase” by GennaRose Nethercott!
One great short story to read today: GennaRose Nethercott’s “Sundown at the Eternal Staircase”
According to the powers that be (er, apparently according to Dan Wickett of the Emerging Writers Network), May is Short Story Month. To celebrate, for the third year in a row, the Literary Hub staf…

Ugh the ending of Six Feet Under always sneaks up on me and then suddenly I’m sobbing to Breathe Me by Sia

I really hope w*cked is great but this kind of thinking is nauseating. No one is more willing to suspend disbelief than musical theater fans. And since when are colorful movies less believable or relatable? Isn’t this dramatically underselling the emotional power of w*cked’s source material??

This week I got engaged, got into my first writing residency, and got to see the love of my life perform with the New York Philharmonic! Not a bad way to start my time here on 🦋 : )
