I’m a freelance writer and editor. I live in Pittsburgh with my partner (he’s the tall one) and our two cats.

If I’ve never met you IRL, I won’t respond to a DM from you.
Nice! Congratulations! I have a copy of this book but haven’t started reading it yet. I first encountered your work in a grad seminar at the U of Washington, early 00s. We read Koolaids and I absolutely loved it. I wrote about it in my final paper for the course.

...incompetently, but that doesn't make it better.

Agreed! I grew up with “notebook paper,” then discovered ClaireFontaine notebooks in grad school. Then…Japanese stationery. I only use 8.5 x 11 paper in my printer, because…hmm. I should look for reams of A4 paper for that. I also used steno pads as journals in HS, which I now know are B6 size.

Biden, even though Kamala Harris was actually Walz’s running mate. Trump is obsessed with Biden - and Obama before him.

Also drag them kicking and screaming (and smirking) to Nuremberg.

And of course, happening now: Gaza.

The delusion of “racial purity.” Sickening.

Have you seen images and film footage of the Holocaust? Pol Pot’s “killing fields” in Cambodia? Bangladesh? Rwanda? Eradications of Indigenous people in what’s now the US, Mexico, and Canada? The trade in African slaves for hundreds of years? There are countless examples.

It reminds me of the ecological phenomenon of lake turnover.

Aka “Lola Rennt” in German.

The B sizes and “slim” sizes also vary a bit from company to company. Eg: Midori’s B6 slim is smaller in both height and width than Kokuyo’s.

My fave notebooks are A5, A6, and B6, more portable than A4 and B5.It gets complicated because in Japan and elsewhere they make “slim” sizes, which are easier to hold in your hand. For example: Travelers Notebooks are A5 slim; Midori and Kokuyo make B6 slim notebooks and planners.

That’s how international paper sizing works. A is only one sizing system. There’s also B, which has different proportions, same method for succession sizing, where B0 is the primary size, then B1 is half of B0, and so on). And C, for envelopes.

Yep. I grew up in Michigan, lived in Vermont for some years, then Seattle where, as someone once told me, “the snow stays up in the mountains where it belongs.” Usually true, but not always! Now…living in Pittsburgh for almost 4 years. Sigh. At least it looks pretty in the trees today…?

Shoot, I forgot to add alt text: it’s me, in reading glasses, sitting in the waiting area of a hospital and peeking over the top of my copy of Red Mars, by Kim Stanley Robinson. (Purchased used from Thriftbooks.)

Those Costco hot dogs are so good! I had one a couple of days ago, first time in years. They’re bigger than I remembered. Ahem. 🌭🤩😂

And of course we always had a labor lawyer involved in arbitration proceedings, but also consulted throughout grievance steps.

What is your role? Are you a labor lawyer? In my union (I’m a former member and staff organizer with UAW Local 4121 at the U of Washington), we always had legal help (consultation) when bargaining a new or successor CBA. Progressive discipline is de rigeur.
