I try to log onto this website for 2 mintues to post something light-hearted - like how much I would want to be the archivist for the Paul Reubens estate - and instead I immediately see something inexplicably dire and it's like being punched in the stomach several times a day, every day

I don't know if this makes sense, but the Mrs. Meyer's rain scented hand soap makes me feel like I can be a better person

So first they were like "autistic people can't date," and everyone was like, "do you not have a Netflix subscription?" And now they're like "girls have too many dolls." I'm just saying, I see a through line

Found a little dude today, Curt Palm collection, ca. 1930s. Label said "campus buildings" which it mostly was not

I think the teachers at our crunchy progressive daycare are not allowed to comment on how cute a baby is, so I'll just assume everything they say to me should be interpreted as a tacit acknowledgment that my baby is the cutest. what's that? we're almost out of diaper cream? oh, ok, we'll stock up 😉

my work computer has been begging me for a restart for like 10 days. when I finally let it go, it took all of about 45 seconds. like, that's what you were all excited about? get a life

one reason I never get anything published is that, when I get notes back from an editor, my instinct is to say "Oh, no, thank you. I was done thinking about that."

there are many ways one could imagine Trump to be acting strategically - oh, X is certainly a distraction from Y, or, hmm, convenient that Z found a way to benefit from the latest chaos - but, realistically, guys. He's a stupid fucking maniac. There is no plan, that's demonstrable 1000x over

one thing that scares me is how much we don't know what is changing. like, we'll all still look at the weather app on our phones, but we won't know they're just making shit up now because they have no more government data to draw on

Learned the word opprobrium today, like everybody else

Weren't most of the doge douche troops in high school during the pandemic lockdowns? Should've pushed these freaks out of their basements to be bullied instead of leaving them alone to stream increasingly deranged manosphere content for two years
i'm so tired of the "bullied nerds" narrative that exists only to garner sympathy for young men being assholes. i had somebody tell me the DOGE teen criminals currently ripping the copper wiring out of the walls of our government were probably bullied at school and i wanted to spit in their face

We're all on here trying to craft a joke about, like, imagine Elon Musk's merry band of groypers just abruptly cut funding to MK-ULTRA in the middle of Operation CHAOs, before Charles Manson had time to do anything but spread VD around San Francisco, right?

The idea arising in MPOW of getting AI involved in archival processing and it makes me want to drive my car into a lake

This is the type of organized participatory opportunity I've been advocating for since 2016 -- a way for severe introverts with professional skills to make a real impact in activist activities without immediately burning out in overwhelming social environments

Hepworth shot his 1905 British film RESCUED BY ROVER three times, because the printing negative wore out twice. Here's the ending from two different versions.

The case for teaching archival research (still overwhelmingly an analog process) as a profound illustration of the way knowledge production works
So one of the things that I think is lost on AI proponents is what I call the card catalog effect, a thing I shouldn’t call it because a lot of people probably have no experience with a card catalog.

On weekdays, when everybody's working and I'm home holding a sleeping baby, I'm on this app refreshing and refreshing, waiting for anything new to happen. On weekends when everybody's on here posting, I'm like "oh, turns out, I don't want to read any of this shit"

Gonna lose my mind and move into the woods and just start arranging and describing various piles of leaves and trash that I find

Just a NTT faculty librarian in an obscure position up for reappointment in the year universities lose millions in indirect costs from federal research grants. I'm getting my bags packed, is what I mean

Went to buy a sun hat for the baby. The choices were girl-coded floppy beach hat and boy-coded bucket. Do boys need less sun protection than girls for some reason?

My issue with calling the anti-DEI effort "segregation" is that segregation implies the existence of separate, parallel systems, however unequal... And I haven't seen even a cursory nod toward any alternative for minoritized people

The baby met another baby for the first time today, and I don't know what was going through her mind, but she seemed to be just smiling and laughing at the realization that other babies exist
