BlueSky should add this feature; it would cut down on the fake Gaza scam accounts.

Didn’t Jared solve for peace in the Middle East something like five or six years ago? How’s that working out?

If you want to support independent journalism that regards the powerful with dread and suspicion, subscribe to the The Handbasket.

There’s a clear path to notoriety in this industry, but I’ve chose the tougher road of precision and honesty. If you respect that route, subscribe now:

I think @dinfontay.com summed up the moral fracture in journalism really well: “I feel cliché referencing George Carlin, but after a week like this what else can you say? There is a big club, and we aren't in it.”
Moral rot in elite journalism is killing the whole field
The Nuzzi/RFK Jr. mess and the revelation of Esptein's journo pals lay bare a profound moral absence at the heart of our free press.

We saw on Friday elite solidarity rather than professional solidarity when Trump called a female reporter “piggy” and not a single one of her colleagues came to her defense—presumably because they didn’t want to threaten their own proximity to power.

As the wise @karenho.bsky.social told me for this piece: “Any journalist of color I know with a tough childhood would not be given a book deal to write about blowing up their life and career to sext with a Kennedy and then a job at Vanity Fair.”

Through Nuzzi’s interview and book excerpt, we are to understand that her journalistic malpractice was excusable because it was underpinned by genuine emotion. She was the victim of her emotions, and not of the way she behaved as a result of them. But how many others are afforded that privilege?

Reading Nuzzi’s glossy tale of woe told from a Mustang in Malibu while there are so many talented, ethical journalists struggling to make ends meet is an indictment of how far this profession has fallen to elite control. Success has become more of a riddle than a road map.

My mind has been spinning the last few days as multiple crises of journalism converged—the Nuzzi book, Epstein’s emails revealing journalists hid information, Trump berating a reporter with no consequence—and it occurred to me they all stemmed from the same source: elite impunity.
