From Lyon I took the direct Clermont-Ferrand train home. I had a nice private compartment until Roanne :D

Belfort was absolutely frigid, also inside the station, so I went on a short walk to stay warm. I came back at just the right time though, my next train would take 4 hours and be busy.

In Mulhouse I had about 45 minutes, which I used to have breakfast and walk a small lap around the canal

After just barely making it to my train in time, the wonderful TER200 with Corail carriages, I say goodbye to my host, and take it to Mulhouse

We start with a quick walk through Strasbourg, which is just lovely.

We ended up travelling through Switzerland through the night. Ending up on the Canopus night train from Zürich to Prague for the Basel-Offenburg section. After a painful hour long wait in Offenburg, we boarded the Regioshittle with bus seats to Kehl.

I was really happy to see this station and a Swiss train

Before turning back to Culoz. Here are the two pictures of shame from there.

After arriving and meeting up, we take some evil-looking trams to Part-Dieu station, and then head towards Genève
November 22, 2025 at 5:01 PM
Usually I would just take the direct Lyon train to Part-Dieu, but I am meeting a friend in Perrache. Even though my train terminates there, I decide to transfer in winter wonderland Tarare and much less snowy Albigny-Neuville so I can tick off the line via Lyon Vaise

It is really early and I am taking the 6am train towards Lyon for a small weekend trip!

Hmmm, tastes like watching your train depart as you disembark from the bus in Binche but not minding it that much as it's one of Belgium's prettiest stations.

Lot of cantons travelled haha, all of them are new for me except Genève and Vaud

Lastly, here's a map of my travels, powered by Trainlog:

I will skip over this part a bit quickly, I made my way on regionals to Belfort, Besançon, Dijon, and Nevers, where I transfered to a train home. I had a 1h30min connection in Nevers because French timetable planners are evil. However, I really enjoyed looking around in the city. It's really cute

After a very quick transfer in the bilingual city of Biel/Bienne, I take the train to Meroux, the upper level of Belfort's TGV station. I pass by surprisingly scenic Moutier, which will join the Jura department next year. Becoming the 3rd most populous town of this sparsely populated canton.

The way back wasn't as interesting. Upon arrival in Melide, the weather became much worse and less summery. We did have a beer on the train!

The weather in the southern Alps was lovely, and that conbined with all the water on the bus route meant we got the urge to ride a boat. So we did. We even stopped at Campione d'Italia, the small Italian exclave with a brutalist casino
October 28, 2025 at 7:32 AM
Also after Chiavenna the views remained lovely.

This bus is Swiss and Swiss tickets are valid on it, but 2/3rds of its route is in Italy. Including a long stop at the railway station in Chiavenna where we stretched the legs a bit.
