Fun Fact. Both the USS Iowa and USS Wisconsin hold world records for battleships with Iowa having the longest 16inch (405mm) Shot fired and Wisconsin holding the Speed Record!

She would then go on to serve in the Korean war! she was finally modernized in 1982 as part of the 600 ship navy plan by President Ronald Reagan to fight the expanding Soviet fleet. Finally she would sail for the Gulf war where her career in active service would finally end in the 1990's.

She was completed in 1946 making her the last and most modern battleship but like a lot of battleships built late war she would meet her fate in the scrappers yard in 1960 and by mid 1962 she would be all gone.

but only the Japanese Kongo classes lasted till later into the war, all 4 were sunk as again the threat of fast battleships had shown, Not only did they disrupt supply with hit and run tactics taking them out with aircraft even proved hard only 1 was sunk by aircraft and it was while she was in port

The USS Iowa and her 3 sisters existed for the chance and reason to hunt Kongo and her 3 sisters! Fast battleships were overlooked by both sides but the Allies realized that the German and Japanese fast battleships were a actual problem and threat and became focused on hunting them down
