A more minor thing, but one that still bugs me: Trump, for all his bluster about the shootings of the guard troops he sent to DC, has remained at Mar-a-Lago this whole time. He won't return to Washington until Sunday.

He never returned to visit the bedside of Specialist Beckstrom before she […]

This is funny because what differentiates human's from cat's world models are what Suárez in the 17th century called entia moralia which are accessible to us exclusively via, guess what, exactly: language. Others would even enmphasize: Writing.

And the Meta politics gossip/murmuring is just […]

* Context compaction: documentation vs. code.
* AI rift: part of the team doesn’t believe in AI, and the other part uses a lot. The two sides hate each other more and more.
* PR is for mental alignment (among humans).
* And Memento is the best movie for context engineering!

Highly recommending this talk from AIE/CODE 2025 on how to code effectively as a team with AI:

* With coding agent, 40% of your context window is “smart zone”. Once it’s passed, expect more slop.
* How do you know you should start a new context (task): when your coding agent says “You’re […]

necessarily analog critique people want to imagine they're producing. It's really training students to produce the next benchmark (let's call it OverlookedStandpointBench). Which is a cool thing to do, imo.

It varies I'm sure, but once you've made it niche enough, you've crafted an exercise for a class ... on LLMs.

I think it would often still be possible to say "what perspectives are ~overlooked~ in this answer" — because models are so homogenized. But again, that's not producing the timeless, +

Would it still be possible if you go with extremely niche stuff where you know that training data is extremely rarified, and so any generalization is likely to be fraught? Or are they good enough at this point to say "i don't know"?

"Ask students to explain why the chatbot is wrong" was a short-lived pedagogical fix — because it's now likely that the students will stumble more significantly than the bot.

There's a path forward for analog/offline learning, and also a path that uses AI. John Henry pedagogy is a dead end. +

2 kinds of news stories about AI:

1) "What happens if <0.1% of people make the tools the rest of us use to think?" No buzz. It's vague & abstract.

2) "AI is alienating a generation of kids from their parents." Picture of Nåndõ, who let an LLM choose her name & shocking hairstyle. Wow! Viral. +

Readers like concrete stories with human interest — especially if they’re about sex, or wackos, or kids doing bad things.

The big problem of power and inequality is *too* big to make a good story. Also it’s not news. But imo amplifying concentration of power is the biggest risk of AI.
