Christians, leave us alone.

Last year solar powered audio devices were found in the Javari Valley, Brazil playing Bible sermons in Spanish & Portuguese to the Korubo & other isolated Indigenous peoples. This covert evangelism echoes centuries of colonial violence & forced conversion in the Americas
On this day in 1956, Waorani people kill 5 evangelical Christians from the United States attempting to evangelize a tribe who had explicitly made it known they wished to remain uncontacted.

Italy in particular saw fascism and colonialism as interlinked. From the constant invocation of Libya as the "Fourth Shore" of Italy and the notion of spazio vitale being used to justify territorial expansion, Mussolini saw fascism as the way to compete with the UK and France in colonial affairs.
The first fascist country in the world, Italy, already had a colonial empire from the jump (Eritrea, Somalia and Libya) and proceeded to commit a genocide in Libya between 1929–1934, before invading Ethiopia in 1935. But people talk about fascism like it has nothing to do with colonialism.

So I don't know if you follow @historyiswhat.bsky.social, or have seen the absolute UNIT of a collection on Marxism, Anarchism, and Indigenous perspectives (etc) on historyiswhat.noblogs.org, but you must, on both counts. Personally I can't bloody wait to use this a resource in my courses.
