The crazy thing is that UBI is the capitalist answer to keeping the pitchfork wielding peasants out of the streets. Capitalists keep the means of production! I am begging the billionaires to develop an ounce of self-preservation, but they're like, "nah, how about everything worse forever?"

Not to well actually, but this was driving me crazy because I was pretty sure the whole comic was created in 1963. I looked it up and it was. Issue 156 came out in 1981.

I was projecting forward to the writer's next week piece where he promises answers. This piece is so sensible, but I feel like this person is probably too economics-brained to come to the correct policy solutions. So I needed to say them.

It's really smart. Isn't the answer just eliminate all means testing and institute universal healthcare, childcare and public college, universal basic income and let progressive income taxes sort it out?

The worst part, for average Russians, is that it then went up to 25 rubles to the dollar by the time I visited in summer '99. Almost 5x. I understand how Russia got autocracy. Actual hyper-inflation is scary.

There's precedence for this. Russia dropped 3 zeroes in the late 90s.
