Caste by Isabel Wilkerson, Disability Visibility by Alice Wong, Debt by David Graeber, and King by Jonathan Eig. Every one of these books was excellent and enriched my understanding of the world. Still sad at the passing of Alice Wong and pleased by El Akkad’s win of the National Book Award.

… Jane Austen Book Club was genuine and lovely, and Dandelion Wine was just such an incredible gift. I don’t like to shy away from the dark or hide my head in the sand, but it’s nice to be reminded that there is room for some light.

… plan to end the year with the sequel. I read Becky Chambers’ wonderful Monk & Robot as well as the 3rd book in her Wayfarer’s series, Record of a Spaceborn Few. Murderbot Diaries was surprisingly warm and uplifting. T. Kingfisher always makes me feel good. Karen Joy Fowler’s…

Reading is reading. It all counts as far as I’m concerned.

I’ll definitely be sharing as I go. Going to try to stick to a chronological order but we’ll see how it goes. First up is The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

If he wants to shift gears, maybe The Strange by Nathan Ballingrud. It’s a western with horror elements set on Mars in a Bradburyesque universe. Read it earlier this year and loved it.

My second book by Adam Nevill and I really liked them both. This one didn’t get under my skin like Last Days did though. Might be because I saw the film first so there weren’t any big surprises.

It was probably the biggest surprise for me this year. I didn’t know anything about it other than it was Bradbury (that was enough) and it ended up being something much greater than I was expecting. A book that will stay with me a long time.

Started Boy’s Life and I’m loving it. I’ve been on a bit of a Bradbury kick this year and I had no idea Boy’s Life was going to feel so much like Dandelion Wine. First time reading Indian Lake and it is so good. Don’t Fear the Reaper is the 5th SGJ book I’ve read this year.

I’m planning to finish the Indian Lake trilogy. On Don’t Fear the Reaper now. Boy’s Life by Robert McCammon. The Ritual by Adam Nevill. The Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman. Waking the Moon by Elizabeth Hand. The Twisted Ones by T. Kingfisher and still have to decide on some others.

A well-deserved win by El Akkad. Very happy to see this.
