2025 Reading Year in Review. Day 6. I’ve been reading more and more audiobooks every year. I listen to them any time I’m driving on my own and have started listening more when I’m walking as well. This year I’ve listened to 26 audiobooks so far and will most likely finish a couple more… 📚💙

2025 Reading Year in Review. Day 4. Short stories got me back into reading in November 2022. Since then I’ve devoted one full month a year to reading short story collections. This April I read The Ladies of Grace Adieu and Other Stories by Susanna Clarke, Artificial Things by Karen Joy Fowler… 📚💙

2025 Reading Year in Review. Day 4. Another goal I had this year was to read more classic novels and big weighty tomes. I started with War and Peace in January (finished in March) and that’s as far as I got. There will be a year for this kind of reading, but this wasn’t it. 📚💙

2025 Reading Year in Review. Day 3. Early last year, someone raised the question of which authors you have read at least 5 books by. I made a list (of course) and have been adding to it since. This year I added 13 authors: China Mieville, Annie Dillard, Becky Chambers, Karen Joy Fowler…📚💙

2025 Reading Year in Review. Day 2. I had plans to read a lot more non- fiction this year. I started off strong but once things got busy, I shifted to strictly fiction for the rest of the year. Still, I read a lot of great NF books this year. We Were Not the Savages by Daniel Paul… 📚💙

2025 Reading Year in Review. Day 1. Horror books may have made up the bulk of my reading this year and the world in general has been even more horrific, but I read a lot of great books this year that helped renew my faith in humanity. I started the year with House in the Cerulean Sea and … 📚💙

November’s reading. Great stuff from @sgj.bsky.social, Thomas Ligotti, @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social, @erinmorgenstern.bsky.social, Adam Nevill, Christopher Buehlman, and @tkingfisher.com. #BookSky 📚💙

I’m glad I’m reading this now rather than over the summer when Nova Scotia was experiencing one of the worst droughts in the history of the province. Those months were scary enough. 📚💙

"They’ve already struck an in-principle deal with T&F that all Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand university research published by T&F can be freely accessed by members of the public from 1 Jan 2026. This is kind of huge." Um, yeah it is! #highered #academicsky researchwhisperer.org/2025/11/25/l...

Just finished book 2 of The Indian Lake Trilogy by @sgj.bsky.social and I just have one question. Why the hell haven’t these made it to the screen yet? Please tell me this is in the works for sometime in the near future. Like all good slasher sequels, this one cranks things up to 11. 📚💙

It’s shameful the government hasn’t made this public or addressed the report’s findings. Another in a long list of shameful action and inaction of the Houston government.

Next year promises to be a quiet year at work, so I've decided to give myself a real reading challenge for the year. The plan is to read a book from every year beginning in 1900 to 2026. I've had fun putting together the list of books and collecting them to be ready for January. Wish me luck. 📚💙

This was a lot of fun. A great fantasy adventure with a great sense of humour. Look forward to reading more of Buehlman’s books. 📚💙

Book #90 for the year. I set my goal lower this year (72) because I was busy with contract negotiations, but it looks like I’ll crack 100 after all. I’ll start posting some highlights of the reading year through December. It’s been rather random and unfocused but still lots of great books. 📚💙

Starting to see ads for Black Friday sales so time to remind people to support your local independent bookstores and don’t give Bezos any more money. This applies year round, but is extra critical this time of year.

Just finished Absolution by @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social Absofuckinglutely brilliant. Best in the series for my money. I seem to be in the minority who liked Authority best of the original trilogy though, so what do I know. This series demands a reread. #BookSky 📚💙

I’ve been wanting to read Thomas Ligotti for years and finally took the plunge with this incredible collection of stories. The Foreward by @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social is excellent as well. Following up the Ligotti by finishing the Southern Reach series with Acceptance and Absolution. #BookSky 📚💙

Spooky Season 2025. Books still in progress. It’s the last day of October and I am still too far from the end of these books to finish by the end of the day. It’s been a lot of fun doing this deep dive into horror this month and I may just continue into November. #BookSky 📚💙

Spooky Season 2025, Book #18. I am so happy the second book in this series is already out, but I already know I’m going to be chomping at the bit waiting for book 3. Do yourself a favour and set aside a morning or afternoon to devour this in a single sitting. #BookSky 📚💙
