My favorite time of day is when I eat lunch with my boys. Did an incredible lunch today with braised, slow cooked pork belly, sticky rice, sautéed bok choy and braised potatoes. I joked this marae would have THEE most carvers on the river because of our family lunches. 😁

My own version of the tradish designs put on red bands that are popular here in Aotearoa. Complete with my Yup'ik calling name in them. Family marks and marks for protection and all. Just need a clear coat, and I'll be set

Was sitting here saying a prayer for guidance and strength & ended up watching this Tūī eating nectar on a nearby plant for about 20 minutes in the evening light.
It just sat like this & looked over the river for a few minutes.
I'd like to think it was just enjoying the view...
Then it sang.

Marae event clean up after events mean you get your 10,000 steps in by early afternoon and fulfill your physical activity goals before lunch. Have a few more things to do before another well deserved shower and a moe (nap) before hitting the beach and going to dinner!

My current obsession right now is making sleeveless qaspeqs (cuss-pucks) or "vest-puks".
I have to fix my tāne's qaspeq sleeves (which I'm avoiding) but isn't this pretty?
These traditional, unisex Yup'ik clothing items are called qaspeq and they're the inspiration for contemporary "hoodies".
