Important to understand that most national identity systems are physical documents, usually mandatory to possess but not necessarily to use in every transaction.

Digital ID infrastructures are qualitatively different. They're capable of mediating access to banking, employment, and healthcare.
as a side note someone should actually launch a like quarterly publication aimed at foreigners living in Britain, where we get to have our various questions about the natives answered in a thorough yet entertaining manner
I realise the audience for this would just be "me, and also maybe other foreigners" but I would love to read something on why Brits, who are happy to live in a country where their every movement outside is filmed by CCTV, hate the idea of having ID cards, something plenty of countries happily have

We have the most optimistic podcast in Britain and some extremely creative fans. I'm pretty sure it's the optimism Jenrick likes but we'll be sure to ask him for you.
