The UK, where the day after a decision to take half a million children out of poverty, the media & political world has been full of sneering at those same children & their families, labelling them as ‘Benefits Street’, while the same people are moaning about a tax on £2m mansions. Shameful stuff.

Today's 70% fall in net migration to 205,000 was not one of the six stories in BBC ten o'clock news.

Ta massive assymetry in whether rises in immigration and falls in immigration are considered newsworthy by broadcasters

Down by 140k isn't thought to be.

Up by 140k undoubtedly would be.

Two crucial reforms the Budget could make are to motoring taxes 🚗

Petrol and Fuel Duty are both historically cheap: permanently cancelling scheduled rises should not be a priority, at a time of squeezed public finances.

Yes, our polling at @patmillsuk.bsky.social shows a high level of acceptance for taxation as long as it is demonstrably levied “fairly”. The current hesitation over taxing embedded wealth doesn’t make either economic or political sense.

Some of the people in this article have shared their recollections with me before - but on condition of anonymity. Coming forward now is an act of patriotism. Farage’s claim that it never happened is the opposite.

Nigel Farage is actually quoted as saying that the Home Secretary ‘sounds like a Reform supporter’ with these horrible policies. She probably thinks that’s a good thing - most right minded people think it’s a disgrace.
Just wilful performative cruelty that is entirely out of step with the majority of British people.

How many Labour MPs got into politics in order to vote for stealing jewellery off of people seeking refuge from war and persecution?
