I get several in my bedroom each year. If it’s chilly they will crawl onto your hand for warmth and you can just take them outside.

They are harmless if you can get past the size and noise.

I keep thinking it would warrant exploring it’s implementation further, both as a fictional event and as a treatment. Sounds like a good idea but I think of it as similar to the twitter algorithm and open to massive abuse by vested interests. Imagine the voter manipulation you could do.

I am straight out stealing “genital panic” for future use.

Flexibility is good. For me:
Writing - left
Tennis - right
Table tennis - left
Golf - left
Snooker - right
Cricket (bowling) - right
Cricket (batting) - left
Fencing - whichever makes my opponent the most uncomfortable

Maybe introduce a tax on unfounded speculation?

Ha! Classic Freudian wish projection. I meant GDP rather than GOP being dead.

I return again to my perennial question. If nuclear power stations are totally safe, why not build them near the power demand rather than dumping them on isolated communities. There are several disused power stations in London and the Thames is a perfect cooling water supply.

Quisling seems apposite

I am in Devon. Hence randomly sending the query in your direction. Thanks for the suggestions.

Couldn’t agree more but it suggests the Starmer government opposes random murder of Latin Americans more than Palestinians.

Weird that this was the red line on intelligence sharing rather than Gaza.

Fair point. Any recommendation for local organisations to go into more detail with?

Interesting. Would the village utility be open to installing their own battery storage?

I raise your Blimey O’Riley to a Lord love a duck. 0.30 CHF is 0.28 GBP per kWh - expensive. I presume the Swiss government is trying to discourage home battery storage. Seems counter to the usual personal bunkers and forward planning approach.

Interesting. My local food bank tends to decline fresh food and prefer tinned stuff like Spam.

Yes but it applies for storage only too. In the UK we can access wholesale rates more closely (although still not directly) so “store my solar and sell later”, “import power at cheap/negative rate and export at peak rate” and other arbitrage approaches are all possible.

Say I install 48kWh of battery storage. I can fill that in 3 hours and it will last the rest of the day. I can repay the £20,000 cost to install the batteries in 2 years and make a profit after that (I am paid to store power I use later). This deal would increase the payback period to 4 years.
November 6, 2025 at 9:36 AM
Understood, but the effect of this “deal” is actually to reduce the amount those people receive. 3 hours import at 100 amps in the UK would pay me anything up to 13 pounds (28 Oz dollars) per day. This change reduces that to zero - I would be thousands a year worse off.
