I am enjoying The Folded Sky (White Space #3) by @matociquala.bsky.social at the moment. An interesting accepted future technology (keeps being mentioned but doesn’t really change the plot) is “tuning” which is AI hormone manipulation to control aberrant behaviours in humans.

Just watching #bbclaurak. I am stuck between wondering whether successive governments make non-white people home secretary just to avoid the most obvious attack line when they give succour to racists, and whether Chris Philp could be more. disingenuous if he tried.

Misusing “Flatlining” is my current pet hate. It implies dead (the ECG is a flat line). If GOP hasn’t grown it isn’t dead. Yes, the line is flat but that isn’t what the word implies.
“Flirting with death” implies taking mad risks. It doesn’t actually mean looking winsomely at a skeleton in a cape.

Hi @philsturgeon.com what are your thoughts on bracken clearance? I cleared a few metres of my Devon hedgerow while planting tree saplings in it and got a rather lovely display of wildflowers coming through at head height (snowdrops and later bluebells). I was thinking about trying to clear the rest

The only positives I can draw from the Huntingdon train attack is that we have police who didn’t just storm in and kill two more people. As a result we might actually get to find out what the reason for the attack was rather than wildly speculating.

Well this is the dream outcome for the Greens. The people who don’t watch because of Laura Kuensberg and the people who might vote Green have a massive overlap. Victoria Derbyshire presenting might get them past 150,000 members.
Weird opinion : milkmen are the symptom and cause of a nice area.

This won’t cause any problems at all with bias against uneducated UK applicants (!?). I presume equality legislation means that the same standard has to apply to native speakers.

I’m a cynical pessimist on Israel-Gaza. Coverage seems biased. 20 “hostages” is the headline and 1,700 “prisoners” and 154 “exiled” are barely being mentioned. I completely expect Israel to start bombing again tomorrow for some utterly confected reason. I wish I could muster some optimism or joy.

So much American TV is basically “Here’s some manly men risking their lives because our government is rubbish at infrastructure. ”. Flicking through the in-between channels - Ice Road Truckers, Big Timber, and now Mud Mountain Haulers. All about inadequate roads and badly maintained equipment.

I am sitting in front of about 100 cooking apples that I just picked, knowing that they can become an entire Winter’s worth of crumbles and pies in my freezer. Really not keen to start on peeling and prepping them though.
