Walking With The Jocks Tour 2025
https://walkingwiththejocks.co.uk/
One of my favourite eps to do. For two reasons:

1) Walters and I have finally, after a 4 season battle, sorted out our numerous and maddening audio issues.

2) Finally the war has swung irreversibly in the favour of the allies.

Check it out, if you fancy.

APPEAL TO THE PEOPLE OF COVENTRY….
On NOTW this week, with @merrynwalters.uk and I, we read an article about a character that lived in Coventry during the war. we can’t find anything also about him… anyone from the Cov area know anything? It would be great to find out.

I can only assume listening to Wynford Vaughn Thomas reporting from NW Europe every day has affected this.

Slight mistake on this weeks @newsofthewar.bsky.social On the arrest of Richard Sorge in Tokyo, I said he’d met Agent Sonya (Ursula Kuczynski) - of course he recruited her in China!

Top book about her and him: Agent Sonya by Ben Macintyre and Secret war by max Hastings

We’ve tried to avoid him for 4 seasons but unfortunately we can’t dodge Arthur Askey any longer.

Join us for this and other news headlines on @newsofthewar.bsky.social 23 May 1942

Wanted to take some time to acknowledge the victims of Cummins crimes, as discussed on @newsofthewar.bsky.social this week. So often the perpetrator is focused on.

Evelyn Hamilton, 41

Evelyn Oatley, 34

Doris Jouannet, 32

Margaret Lowe, 43 (No photo)

What’s the lowest point in the war for the British?……Dunkirk? Crete? Singapore? Tobruk?

I’d contest its this point, January 1942.

A blow to morale, how did we recover from it?

On the 11th of November 1944 The Sphere magazine printed it first photos from the Walcheren campaign, its front page is of the men of the 4th (Borders) Battalion The Kings Own Scottish Borderers (Peter Whites Bat) moving down Molenstraat on November 1st, a few hours after landing.

Huge thank you to all that tagged along on Walking With The Jocks this weekend.

Look, I’m working on my Winston voice, ok?

I’m a teetotaller and I don’t smoke, so I’m at some disadvantage.

Anyhoo, latest ep of @newsofthewar.bsky.social is out, it’s the last date in 1941… check it out here

Came a cross this a few times in Germany, although it’s not common to have it still out on public display, I believe.

This was Berchtesgaden (which maybe explains it on show)

I wonder why this didn’t catch on in the UK?
Regardless of who is commemorated I found it quite affecting.
