The grocery I started going to after the grocery nearest me started having armed guards check receipts now has an armed guard at the entrance who is dressed like he's about to go to very serious video game war in an entirely colorless universe.

My dog is having a full on emotional meltdown because I'm not taking her to the dog park while:
1. It is still dark, and 30 mins before she usual goes.
2. Pouring rain.
3. She refuses to go out the door because item #2 is my fault.

Turkey is not a beginner protein. It's it's got a unique flavor but the difference between cooked and cardboarded is narrower than Uncle Bob's worldview.

I think this is unfair to turkey. turkey is good but hard to cook well because it is so damn big. turkey *parts* are great but lack the esthetic appeal of a centerpiece bird.

it is tired to the point of cliche to say if turkey was good, people would make it more than once a year. but it is understated that at least one American explodes every Thanksgiving in a brave attempt to make the main dish more palatable

Sad to hear Mark Mellman has died. We grew up in the same neighborhood, and I got to work with him on a race in '06 (largely because our candidate also grew up in that same neighborhood.). He was kind and unbelievably smart. May his memory be a blessing.

Rode up the re-opened front st for the first time today. That freeway exit that unloads directly into a pedestrian havy area around the brewery district and the courts is terrifying. If there's a green light, they'll come right off the freeway at speed. Someone is gonna get hurt there.
