If your school ethos leads to:
Micromanagement
Mind games
Stress and long-term sickness
High staff turnover....

...then maybe there's an issue with staff wellbeing.

Dare you leave a copy of The Wellbeing Toolkit for your head to read?

I'd recommend Charlie's book for healthy teacher habits.

Seen so many threads from leaders and teachers about how their wellbeing is undervalued.

Also heard from a teacher friend who worked 12 hours a day in the first week back.

Time for your school to have a read of The Wellbeing Toolkit and consider principled wellbeing.

Are you looking after your shock absorbers? Those colleagues who watch your back, take the knocks, look after you without you realising?

In recent days on social media I've seen HTs, SLT, teachers and parents frustrated at their workplace. OK it's the last few days, but ultimately it's about the culture in the school.

Plenty of food for thought in The Wellbeing Toolkit and The School Mental Health Toolkit.

Often asked who buys my books.
First it was schools with a genuine interest in mental health and wellbeing.
Second those who are curious about building their culture.
Then schools that need to develop a culture & explore why staff retention and pupil unhappiness are an issue.

It's 6 years today since The Wellbeing Toolkit was published by Bloomsbury, the 873rd bestselling book in the UK that day and #1 in all its categories.

6 years on the issues I wrote about are still as relevant and essential to discuss.

The School Mental Health Toolkit is rooted in the response to the pandemic and how the return to school has been a long term challenge.

I wrote the book to enable schools to support the staff-children-parent community.
