Exactly. I am genuinely flabbergasted that they tabled policy today based on OR time and resources that only exist in a fantasy world.

And the video announcement of this new policy where they argue:

"Why don't we spend more money in the public system? Our answer is it won't work"

Is an entirely unacceptable argument for a Canadian public official to give on this debate.

🧵Why are seasonal childhood vaccination rates falling after the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic despite a mass increase of viral illness?

@mmaroto.bsky.social @amykaler.bsky.social and I add some new understanding to this in our new paper published in The Sociological Quarterly

Regaining our elimination status will require more than angrily shaking our fists at those who we have deemed "anti-vaxers."

The reality is much more complicated, and much of it is based in rebuilding Canadian health care.

Childhood vaccinations have declined since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

But what also happened in 2020 was irreparable damage to our public health system that has never recovered.

How many of you are currently without a family doctor?

🧵The House of Commons Standing Committee on Science and Research passed a motion requiring the Tri-Council to release confidential data.

Some members claim research funding is being unfairly allocated to "DEI" or "woke" research

But last year @pinglamjoeip.bsky.social and I debunked this.

As the data shows, the claim that federal agencies favor “left-wing,” “progressive,” or “woke” research projects is but a myth circulated by misinformed conservatives. If anything, SSHRC actually needs to fund more projects about social inequalities and injustice.
November 4, 2025 at 5:16 AM
Studies about social class, labor, poverty, or other forms of economic inequalities and injustice were especially marginalized and underfunded.
November 4, 2025 at 5:16 AM
Similarly, almost 70% of the 2.1 billion paid through the eight SSHRC programs went to projects that were NOT about any form of social inequality or injustice.
