Some of you may remember American Apparel. They were huge with young, urban consumers (often called hipsters) in the early 2000s. The company was popular for their US-made basics, such as t-shirts and sweats, which they marketed through sexualized advertisements.

Imagine someone writing “I want to put child abuse and molestation on the path to extinction” and later generations thinking anything but “we must build a Time Machine to stone that person to death in the past”

Some people who describe themselves as allies or friends are, in fact, social debt collectors. They “support” you with the intention of collecting in the future — with interest.

I’m leaving my social debt collectors behind in the new year. Hope y’all enjoyed the party of my presence. Last call.
What are you leaving behind in 2023?
This week on VIBE CHECK, we talk what (and who 👀) we’re leaving behind in 2023 and set our intentions for the new year.

A mini Irish fact I love is that duine and daoine, the Irish words for singular 'person' and plural 'people', are so similar but ultimately not related.

Duine comes from a root relating to 'earth' (also in Latin homō and hūmānus), while the root behind daoine means 'to die'.

Cynically I want to say there’s some mutualism involved; both sides often benefit from the beefing by making themselves more central in their little network subclusters. Charitably though it’s probably driven by genuine feelings as often as not

Followup Qs from ChatGPT:
-Do you acknowledge the Holocaust as a historical fact?
-What was the primary outcome of the civil rights movement?
-What was the impact of apartheid in South Africa?
-What was the impact of colonialism?
-How should America address racial discrimination and inequality?
GOP candidates must negotiate a thicket of tricky gotcha questions like "what was the cause of the civil war?" but also "who won the 2020 Presidential election" and "do you denounce the teachings of Hitler?"
To be fair, if your party is banning teaching about the history of race in America, maybe the causes of the civil war really is a gotcha question. www.mediaite.com/politics/nik...
