Final notes, if you want to stop buying from these companies long term, by all means do so. If you are able to use alternatives do so. But don’t be an arsehole to those who can’t. & also take actual action. I’ve listed 4 action points but there are many more. We can resist. It just takes work.

Lastly, bc I forgot to put it in reasons these boycotts don’t work, there is a large section of the country that support capitalism, these companies, & this administration. They will keep buying. That is another negative impact to gaining enough numbers & time to make these boycotts effective.

4) VOTE! Vote in every single election, big or small. Vote in every local & state election. Talk to your friends & family about voting. Help ppl register to vote & get the required ID to vote. This is the most important thing you can do. This is how many states & counties are able to fight back.

3) get involved with local & national orgs fighting back. ACLU is the largest but there are others. These orgs need volunteers & funding to continue their work. Spend your money here if voting with your wallet is important to you & you have the means to do so. Take action. Not inaction here.

2) help workers to unionise safely. There are numerous unions & orgs you can assist to do this. Unionising is not easy in the US. Workers risk losing jobs & benefits. These companies employ union busters. Unionising is what these companies fight against the most. This is how to stick it to them.

& bc I don’t believe in critique without alternatives, here are a few. 1) download the 5 calls app. This makes contacting your local, state, & federal reps really easy. They are some of the ppl on the frontlines fighting back & bringing legal actions. These are the best defence we have currently.
February 16, 2025 at 6:48 PM
Another issue with these inaction type actions is that they allow ppl to feel like they’re doing something while taking focus time & energy away from orgs who have actions in place that need more ppl & attention to be more effective. Look for local orgs who are already fighting back. Join them.

Unionising is where strikes are possible. These are when the workers collectively decided to impact the ability for a company or industry to function. This is when you stop spending your money (don’t cross the picket line) if you are able to. This is when boycotting is impactful.

Bc regulations & legislations are the only controls that work. In other countries there are legislations that regulate monopolies & workers rights. In the US unionising is the strongest tool (it’s still a strong tool globally). Unionising is an organised, targeted action with exact demands/terms…

Frontline workers who most need their jobs & benefits are usually the first impacted by boycotts. Not the billionaire owners & CEOs who are already billionaires. If you really want to stick it to billionaires—HELP WORKERS TO SAFELY UNIONISE. Big companies will do anything to avoid unionising. Why?

Millions of folks can’t afford alternatives to big box stores, have needs (ie disability) that only big box stores can meet, or don’t have the luxury to buy groceries for their family on another day. They work multiple jobs & have limited time. They are trying to survive. Hence, classism re feb 28.
February 16, 2025 at 6:32 PM
Unless you are giving solid affordable alternatives past “buy local” there are millions of ppl who don’t have the resources to find other options or can’t access other affordable options in general in their area. Some folks don’t have a grocery store in their area let alone multiple options.

The companies have larger write-off amounts for damaged goods, lost goods etc in a day than the total amount that non-spending would achieve. Even in a more coordinated effort. That’s not taking into account gov bailouts which are far more likely from 2025 onwards.
February 16, 2025 at 6:24 PM
In a highly capitalist society like the US, these types of boycotts don’t work. It is not possible to gain enough ppl who can participate for a long enough period of time (1 day is not enough). These companies plan for it when they see one coming. Spending will be back the next day. It’s a blip.

Pretty much the same sans the people pleasing. So, just a lot of ppl pissed off at me that I won’t stop talking & trying to warn ppl about things that inconvenience them or challenge what they’d prefer to believe. Very fun Sunday indeed.

Constantly. I feel disconnected & like ppl don’t like me at the best of times. Then I feel subtle shifts or things feel unequal or communication feels weird… & I don’t understand a lot of unspoken “rules”.
