Update: Pumpkin ice cream is perfect!

10 year old said it’s her 2nd favorite ice cream of all time. 7 year old said we could sell it for $100 😂

Now THAT is an apple pie!
November 27, 2025 at 3:36 AM
Update, I have peeled, cored, and sliced approximately 800 apples so there will be apple pie tomorrow after all. Crisis averted.

And yes, all of these apples are for one pie because I am pre-cooking them, which makes the pie better AND means there’s room for more apples in the pie. Win win.

Time to bust out the cranberry sauce spoon.

We have the breads.
November 26, 2025 at 8:58 PM
Snapping some ginger to make cookies for the cranberry pie crust and, hopefully, pumpkin ice cream. It’s all happening.

Let the games begin!

Hold on. The players had to answer the phone in the clubhouse?!

This is common wording, and I guess it was fine in 1995, but this wording continues unabated to this day. I guess headline writers are much more mature than I am, which isn't a high bar to clear, but good for them.

Even in olden times, baseball was the horniest sport!
November 23, 2025 at 10:19 PM
Likewise.

How can you not be romantic about baseball?
November 23, 2025 at 10:13 PM
The origin story of Lou Piniella not liking pitchers 😂

I now have a vision of Jay Buhner tucking in baby Alex Rodriguez, both wearing their full uniforms, of course. Adorbs. Should have been a Mariners commercial.

Starting a new series called "Alex Rodriguez and the Technology of the '90s". This is from his first spring training in 1994 and is very sweet. I hope he called his mom back right away so she wouldn't worry.

Sure. This seems totally normally. Nothing to see here. Draft a guy, correspond via fax machines. It's the 90s! Technology!

Pitchers were built different in the 90s, but also, Randy Johnson was built different in any decade. NBD, just a couple 140 pitch outings with a 34 pitch relief appearance in between. The modern baseball mind cannot comprehend this 😂

I'd somehow never noticed this in Lou Piniella's biography before, but this made me laugh. Perfect Lou content.

And there we are again when nobody had to know,
You kept me like a secret, but I kept you like an oath,
Sacred prayer and we'd swear
To remember it all too well

Sometimes I like to flip through old newspaper and go down weird rabbit holes, and here's one. This was a 6-day contest to see if men could eventually run further than horses because people were obsessed with the idea. Spoiler: Pinafore won by going 557 miles.

I love olden times medical advice. Soak your feet in powdered mustard to draw the blood from your head. Sure!

I shouldn't joke though because people are actually promoting this stuff on the internet in modern times. Le sigh.

One of the many reasons I'd rather live now than in olden times is I can't imagine going for a stroll on the beach dressed like this! The wind, the sand, the many layers of petticoats into which the sand will settle.

I don't know why, but I find olden times advertisements very amusing. RACES AND SPORTS!

There's also a lot going on with the race horse names!

Very excited to get this book, and I just got to the part with the trick or treaters and the razor and wanted to scream with delight. Just so many tiny, little deeply funny pieces, like the first book.

There’s also something darkly funny to be about getting a cover blurb via X (formerly Twitter)

I also enjoyed these little mushrooms growing out of the moss on this rock. And then I had the line “And moss grows fat on a rolling stone, but that’s not how it used to be” for the rest of the day.
