Where I'm at with it is that the other AltGovs don't inspire active DISTRUST, if that makes sense. I have no way to verify their internal vetting, so I can't fully say I trust them, but I also don't have a reason to distrust them any more than any other anon online. And also they legit seem nice lol

If anything, the other AltGov accounts seem to go out of their way to distance themselves from AltNPS, which I genuinely wasn't expecting when I first started this. Most of these people are just trying to help, and I get why they want distance from the blatant grifter account.

As I've said, I'll always be a little skeptical of anonymous accounts, because that's just who I am as a person. But other than AltNPS (and, as Aden notes, AltYello), none of the other #altgov accounts have actually done anything problematic. Compared to AltNPS, I just don't have a reason to care.

But my experience was similar to Aden's: for the first several weeks of my account's existence at least, I didn't even know AltGov existed, let alone which ones were generally considered legit and which weren't. It's a very niche world, with sometimes opaque internal politics.

First, Aden addresses how the wider world of #altgov can get unfairly swept up in criticism of AltNPS specifically. I've been guilty of that in the past as well, especially when I first started this account.

I am, let's say, skeptical that AltNPS has "tracked bot groups" in any meaningful way, and they probably got the info in this September thread from somewhere else.
But even then, they never talked about where spam/bot accounts are based. That was never part of their story.

It sucks even more to see Andrew get replies angry at him for simply requesting to be credited. He even went out of his way to be nice to AltNPS! But we've seen this before: any bad action by AltNPS can be discarded, because it's "for the resistance," or "not the right moment for criticism."

Wait, Mercado Media? I used to follow him pretty closely, he was an invaluable source of live updates when I lived in Minneapolis during the George Floyd protests. Thanks for the tag, I'll look into this soon!

This is a good reminder that AltNPS is not a genuine coalition of Parks employees. They're a social media news aggregator account that will always focus on the hottest topic of the moment.
Talking about the parks won't get them the same engagement! So they don't.
