I 100% agree about normal pumpkin pie. My family has always made a pumpkin chiffon pie, which has a meringue folded into it and a gingersnap cookie crust (this is not an attempt to convert or convince). When I first had normal pumpkin pie, I was disappointed and then angry. Stodgy and bland.

My family used to do a chateaubriand, with polenta, caponata, some kind of potato, and brandied carrot pudding en flambé for dessert.
These days, my metamour roasts a goose over a pheasant and puts potatoes in the pan. They are crispy little goose fat sachets by the end and it's *divine.*
