...fantasy books, I may well have been discouraged from even thinking about discussing my reading, or sharing what books I loved, or even from reading altogether. Sad, innit?

This is the same attitude to people "only reading YA" or those who loved the wizard school books as adults (before the author became the worst), or those who adored The Da Vinci Code. They're readers, non? And acting like they're stupid or not welcome will make them non-readers.
