I'm indulging in a little self-pity because it's my birthday

I've been incredibly fortunate

fairly happy, fairly healthy

spent most of my adult life developing new treatments for important diseases

and in just the past year, transitioned away from that toward the arts I so treasure

hard not to be a little resentful of how all that delayed and stunted my gender transition and socialization

especially given how being unconsciously transgender already complicated my teens and 20s, and connection thereto

who the hell am I, anyway? an abstract, sometimes, it feels

SARS-CoV-2 first broke out in December 2019, just after I turned 34

the majority of my 30s were spent in the pall of COVID-19 (ongoing)

and the previous portion harrowed by the first Trump administration

and the lady at the end seals it
